ABOUT REDANG
The Redang Island, in Malay we called Pulau Redang, is famous for its crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, and the tropical fish that inhabit the numerous reefs, many within 50 feet of the shore. Redang Marine Park (Taman Laut Pulau Redang) covers all 9 islands in the Redang Archipelago, which are Pulau Redang, Pulau Pinang, Pulau Ling, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Kerengga Besar, Pulau Kerengga Kecil, Pulau Paku Besar, Pulau Paku Kecil and Pulau Lima. Pulau Redang is the biggest of all the islands in the Marine Park, measuring about 7 km (4.3 mi) long and 6 km (3.7 mi) wide. When visiting Pulau Redang, one of the activities to do there is to go island hopping either on the island itself or to other islands in the vicinity. It also form a marine sanctuary park offering snorkeling and diving opportunities for tourists.
In contrast to the neighbouring Perhentian Islands, Redang has a more upmarket image, as almost all accommodation on the island is resort-based. The largest beach is Long Beach (Pasir Panjang) on the east side, featuring half a dozen resorts. The beach is covered with soft white sand. Coral and fish can be seen just a few metres from the beach. Diving and snorkelling are among the most popular activities on Redang Island as the coral reefs are quite spectacular. You could also check out a shipwreck, reeftip sharks and swim with turtles as you snorkel and dive at the island.
Redang has a tropical climate with temperatures steadily around 30°C and frequent but brief thunderstoms. Like the rest of Malaysia’s East Coast, Redang is affected by the northeast monsoon in winter, so most resorts are closed and ferry transport schedules are severely restricted between November and February. The traditional way to get to Redang is by boat. Access is from Merang or Taman Tamadun Islam Jetty on boats or ferries. If opting for air travel, SKS Airways also provides daily scheduled flights from Subang Airport, or you may also fly to TGG airport and take boat from jetty to enter island.
